What is Greige?
It’s back: the gorgeous hue that evokes the vibes of a cloudy sky. Greige was seen in 2022, gracing walls and cabinets, but it will grow stronger in 2023, believes interior designer and TV personality Breegan Jane, who describes it as a chalk-like color that falls right between gray and beige. “It is a perfect wall color when you want to bring tones from your hardscape inside. It provides such subtle depth and warmth to interior spaces,” she adds. “I’m seeing it in many interior projects. I think it will be the new white for next year.”
Best for: The living room, dining room, and (really!) everywhere. Because of its complementary qualities, greige is a chameleon. “Natural tones are so versatile and calming, and the emergence of “greige” will mute color palettes perfectly in a way that will not only positively impact us visually but also emotionally and mentally,” says Jane. “I love that it works well for furniture, but can also act as an updated wood stain if you’re trying to get away from dark tones.”
When it comes to choosing colors that complement greige, there are many options. Since greige is a neutral color, it can pair well with other neutrals like white, black, and gray. It can also complement warmer colors like soft yellows, oranges, and browns. Cooler tones such as blues, greens, and purples can also work well with greige, as they create a sense of contrast and depth.
Some specific color combinations that can work well with greige include:
Greige and white: This creates a clean and sophisticated look, especially when used in a minimalist design.
Greige and navy: This combination is classic and timeless, creating a sense of elegance and depth.
Greige and blush pink: This pairing is soft and feminine, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere.
Greige and olive green: This combination creates a natural and earthy feel, perfect for creating a cozy and relaxing space.
Greige and deep red: This combination creates a sense of warmth and richness, perfect for creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere.
Overall, the versatility of greige makes it a popular choice for a wide range of interior design styles, and it can be paired with a variety of other colors to create a cohesive and inviting space.
